Control and Instructions

In ICT we have been giving instructions to control some beebots (floor robots) and cars. This week we built mazes using different construction blocks and then programmed the beebots to travel through the maze. The Blackbirds collaborated in small groups to make their mazes and did a fantastic job! They even used a couple of beebots in the same maze to try and race each other.

Plants

Blackbirds have been learning all about growing plants. They have grown some plants in class and found out about how plants grow and how to keep them healthy in ICT. They have drawn their own animated pictures to show you how they grow.
(Click on your initials to see the plant you drew - if you have the same initials as someone else I have added extra letters from your name)

Hector and E-Safety

This week the children have met a new friend. His name is Hector and he is a dolphin. He swims on our computer desktops at school. He is there so that when we use the computers and internet if we see something that makes us feel confused or scared we can click on Hector. A big picture of hector swimming in the sea and some calm water music plays and covers the screen completely while you ask an adult for help.

While our internet filter blocks inappropriate material from the children we do use search engines which can show them pictures of things they don’t like or that scare them like spiders or snakes. Hector has been introduced as a way for children to cope with this.

If you are interested in finding out more or downloading Hector for a home computer you can find out more here

Christmas ICT activities

In ICT this week we are going to be practising lots of different skills whilst using some different Christmas games, stories and activities. We will be choosing from all the activities below. Clicking on the underlined words will take you to the activities.

At the Advent Calender we will find the different pages for a Christmas Story, clicking on the writing will help us to read the story. Look out for a mouse hiding on each page...can you find them all?

Here are some lovely Christmas pictures to colour in, we learnt how to use the 'fill' and the 'brush' tools earlier this term when we created pictures.

All the Blackbirds have done a great job learning their phonics this term and this Christmas hangman game will let them try to solve some Christmas phrases before the candy canes disappear.

Can you find the words in this Christmas wordsearch?

Design your own costume for how would you dress your snowman if it was a white Christmas in Plymouth.

Muddle up a variety of Christmas pictures then solve these puzzles.

Help the snowman escape this maze of snow to get to the Christmas tree.

Can you catch the presents before they hit the ground in this game?

Can you connect the wires to make all the lights on the tree work?

Match the pictures in this Christmas game.

Have fun

Merry Christmas!

Our Blog

We are learning how to write comments on our blog in ICT so that we can share our learning with you. Today we are all going to try to write our own comment on this post to tell you something we have learnt so far this half term.

Read what we have learnt and tell us what you think too!
